As for operations in confined environments, these are found in almost all industrial sectors — from chemical and agricultural industries to transportation. Examples include silos, hoppers, tanks, sedimentation or lifting basins, sewer networks, wastewater treatment plants, and more.
Such environments typically feature the following characteristics:

They are accessible only through limited openings (e.g., manholes);

They have poor natural ventilation;

They are not designed or intended for regular or continuous occupancy by workers.
All activities carried out within such environments must comply with the provisions of Italian Presidential Decree DPR 177/2011.
